Enter the New Year with a positive frame of mind!

Today’s Gospel, John 1:1-18, is one of the most powerful and most consoling of all John’s writings.

  • In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  The Blessed Trinity is/has always been/and will always be.
  • And the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us …Jesus, the Word, entered into the messiness of human experience and become one like us in all things save sin. Our God is not some vague, impersonal, distant God but One who is with us as we trudge the journey of life.  Blessed are we who believe.

Today is the last day of 2016. Tomorrow finds us into a New Year. Today is a good time to reflect upon the year that is ending and  take a look at one’s life. Life is a mixed bag.  What has 2016 been like? What are the good things that I have done?  Are there forgiveness issues that I need to address?  Where am I in my relationship with God?  And others?  And myself?  Are there any “New Year’s Resolutions” that I need/or want to make?  Are they achievable resolutions?

Today’s Gospel Acclamation:

The Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us.  To those who accepted Him, He gave power to become the children of God.

Among our New Year’s desires, may we pray for the grace to accept Jesus as Our Lord and Savior.
