To whom shall we go?

John 6:60-69 tells us that “many of His disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer walked with Him.” They could not accept His teaching in which He said that “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world (John 6:44-51). Many of His disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” And it is not easy to accept. One can do so only with the grace of God. It requires an act of faith defying logic. Many no longer followed. Jesus said to the Twelve – as He also says to you and to me today – “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter answered for the Twelve – and hopefully for us today – “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” Amen, Simon Peter! There is no other place to go, no other person or deity to turn to. You, and you alone, Lord, Jesus, have the words of eternal life. You, and you alone, are Our Lord and Savior. Blessed are we who believe and stick with you to the end.
